TEXT-BOOKS
|
|
Written by R.S. Ramalho (1983, second edition, Academic Press), this excellent book is out of print now and thus difficult to obtain. The book is unique as it uses Chemical Engineering approaches based on process mass balances and reaction kinetics. It is practical and very much design oriented.
Its PDF file is provided in sections (chapters) for the purposes of this Course.

"SORPTION & BIOSORPTION" book is richly
illustrated with more than 300 slides.
Electronic files of its slides are separately available
for YOUR presentations. |
The book on
"SORPTION & BIOSORPTION" by Prof. B. Volesky provides the backbone and a
textbook for seminars and workshops on the topic. It
summarizes the key information that has been accumulated over the
past three decades of biosorption research. Provided at a special
discount (~50%) at workshops, it is highly recommended for the event
audience to follow the presentations.
The sorption
operation is capable of removing and isolating specific chemical
species from solution and as such it provides a basis for very
effective technological applications. Methodologies developed
and established for examining conventional sorption processes can be
used to study and develop biosorption – and vice versa. From
this point of view, this whole book can be considered to be a one
large case study focusing on heavy metal biosorption. All the
principles dealt with in the text (and presentations) are directly
applicable in many broad aspects of various sorption and
ion-exchange operations encountered in different industrial
activitieies. |
ABOUT THE
AUTHOR
|
|
Bohumil Volesky is Professor Emeritus at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He is also the
President and Founder of BV SORBEX, Inc., an enterprise focusing
on sorption and biosorption technology and its promotion. He
is has specialized in areas of Biochemical Engineering and
Industrial Water Pollution Control. He has authored or coauthored
close to 200 scientific papers and presented many invited lectures
at international scientific meetings and seminars or workshops
around the world.
He has been providing consulting services to
numerous organizations. Dr. Volesky earned his PhD in Biochemical
Engineering at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario,
Canada. His research interests are reflected in his earlier
books on "Biosorption of Heavy Metals" (1990, CRC Press, Boca Raton,
Florida) that he edited, and in a co-authored volume on "Modeling
and Optimization of Fermentation Processes" (1992, Elsevier Science
Publishers, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) |
Biosorption SEMINARS
/ WORKSHOPS :
to be
arranged
|
1-hour
SEMINAR presentations or half-day and full-day
WORKSHOPS can be organized at any location anywhere in the
world. These events can be held at institutions, as parts of
conference programs or before/after conferences. The choice of exact
topics can be negotiated (please consult the book topics) depending
on the interest of the audience.
The presentations can
have emphasis on chemistry, biology or process engineering including
the contemporary computer simulation techniques used for sorption
processes. We explain and bring you the power of FEMLAB sorption simulation
program - it can do even more for you.
|
We collaborate on arrangements for
funding the event(s) providing a grant application
outline for interested groups. See the details of seminar
topics (click) - do not hesitate and be dynamic ...Please register your
potential interest by e-mailing to Dr. Volesky.
We shall
collaborate with you on the best presentation type for your
interest and needs.
Dr. Volesky is available for
presentations and workshops anywhere - at a time of your
convenience. |
